UKIP Sheffield is outraged to learn that a place at the University of Sheffield was given away to a teenager who won an Indian reality TV show.
Caezaan Keshvani, now 20, won a scholarship worth over 55,000 to study biomedical science. The scholarship paid for living expenses and tuition fees. UKIP Sheffield believe that University places should be awarded on a merit only basis not to people who win reality TV shows.
Sheffield University is facing £110,000 in cuts during the next financial year and yet they are able to award £55,000 scholarships to reality TV show winners.
Many students from around Britain have been battling to get places at prestigious Universities such as Sheffield who have some of the highest A-Level requirements for students wishing to study there. Awarding a scholarship of this kind undermines all the hard work each of these students puts into their A-Levels examinations.
This September a quarter of a million students will be refused entry into Universities across Britain. How will Sheffield University justify this scholarship to those students?
